Flozell Daniels
President and CEO, Foundation for Louisiana
Born and raised in New Orleans, Flozell’s history of community service dates back to his childhood days of running errands for neighborhood elders and serving as Vice-President of his high school Key Club. In his current role as President and CEO of the Foundation for Louisiana (formerly the Louisiana Disaster Recovery Foundation), he is responsible for leading the Foundation in its mission to invest in people and practices that reduce vulnerability and build strong, more sustainable communities across Louisiana.
Prior to his appointment at the Foundation, Mr. Daniels served as Tulane University’s Executive Director of State and Local Affairs for 9 years. Before that, he was appointed as an Urban Policy Specialist in the Office of the Mayor, Division of Federal and State Programs for the City of New Orleans. Mr. Daniels currently serves as Ex-officio of the Urban League of Greater New Orleans Board of Directors, having completed a 5-year term as Chairman in 2011. For this service, Flozell was honored with the first Distinguished Service Award for board leadership. He is also a founding member and Board Chairman of the Orleans Public Education Network, a Mayoral-appointed commissioner on the New Orleans Regional Transit Authority, a founding member of the Forum on Racial and Ethnic Equity, and has served as Co-Chair of the Reentry Program Committee for the Mayor’s Working Group on Criminal Justice Reform in New Orleans. Flozell is a 2011 Fellow of the Opportunity Agenda Communications Institute, a life Fellow of the Louisiana Effective Leadership Program, an alumnus of Leadership Louisiana and a graduate of the Metropolitan Leadership Forum. A proud graduate of McDonogh #35 Senior High School, Flozell is an alumnus of Tulane University’s MBA program. In the interim between high school and graduate school, Flozell earned a B.A. in Biological Sciences from the University of New Orleans and spent six years doing materials research for the USDA.
His certifications include grantsmanship, project management, federal audit compliance and professional contract management. His professional interests include community economic development, advocacy leadership development and promoting equity-based policy implementation. Mr. Daniels continues to reside in New Orleans with his family, where he is a booster of his daughter’s volleyball team and is Parliamentarian of his son’s Parent Teacher Student Organization. When he has time to relax, Flozell can be found exploring the amazing cultural richness of Louisiana’s food and festival circuit with family and friends.
