Doris Hicks

Principal, Dr. King Charter School, New Orleans

A graduate of Dillard University of New Orleans where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts, followed by her M.Ed+30 from the University of New Orleans. Dr. Hicks returned to Dillard for her Doctorate.

She has served as President- Principal’s Association of New Orleans Public Schools; President- Louisiana Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (LASCD); President- New Orleans Council International Reading Association (NOIRA); Chairperson- Principal’s Management Conference, New Orleans, LA; Chairperson- Uniform Task Force, New Orleans LA; Chairperson- School Board Orientation, New Orleans, LA; Chairperson- Language Arts Core Team, New Orleans, LA; and Member- New Orleans Public Schools’ Superintendent Leadership Cabinet.

Dr. Hicks has received numerous awards and honors, including Elementary School Principal of the Year New Orleans, LA; Hardin’s Heart Award- New Orleans, LA; Outstanding Woman of the Community, New Orleans, LA; Y.W.C.A. Role Model Award- New Orleans, LA; Hardest Working Educator Award, Tom Joyner Morning Show; Southern Christian Leadership Conference Award (SCLC); Patrick Daley Award- Yale University, New Haven Connecticut; CBS Person of the Week, 2008; Featured in Essence Magazine Bold and Beautiful Article, 2008; Featured in Peoples Magazine, August 2008; 100 Black Women in New Orleans Honoree; Peoples’ Magazine Heroes’ Award, 2008; Children’s Defense Fund Leadership Award, 2008; and Travel Professional of Color Organization Award of Excellence, 2008.
