Henderson Lewis

Superintendent, Orleans Parish School Board

Dr. Henderson Lewis began his tenure as one of the youngest Superintendents of the Orleans Parish Public Schools on March 18, 2015. Dr. Lewis brings nearly 20 years of educational experience to the office of superintendent. During his tenure as the superintendent of East Feliciana Parish Public Schools, he achieved measurable growth and gains for the district with the support of East Feliciana’s Board, community, and other stakeholders. As, a result of his four year strategic plan and leadership, East Feliciana was recognized in the 2012-2013 school year by the Louisiana Department of Education as 2nd in the state for elementary student academic growth, raising the bar for classroom teaching and evaluation, and significant gains among low-income students.

Dr. Lewis has served the students and families of Saint Bernard Parish Public Schools as a mathematics teacher, mathematics department chair, and middle school curriculum coordinator. Additionally, he served as founding principal of, (Algiers Technology Academy) assistant principal of, (Alice Harte Elementary) and Director of Academics and Instructional Technology under the Algiers Charter Schools Association. Dr. Lewis is currently serving his 3rd term and 9th year as a representative for District 9 on the St. Bernard Parish Public School Board. Dr. Lewis holds a bachelors degree in Secondary Mathematics from Southern University at New Orleans, master’s degree in Educational Administration from the University of New Orleans, and a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Educational Leadership from Mississippi State University.
